Julienas ruled out of major spring Cups

Tuesday 9 October 2012, 4:38pm

Gai Waterhouse has the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup favourite in Glencadam Gold but he won't be joined in the spring features by her fellow imported stayer Julienas.

The Wyong Cup winner was not paid up for either of the showpiece races when the latest declarations were taken on Tuesday.

Waterhouse's racing manager Bruce Slade confirmed Julienas had suffered a slight setback which had interrupted the stable's carnival plans.

The gelding was to have run in Saturday's Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield in a last-ditch bid to earn a spot in the Caulfield Cup a week later.

"He had a little bit of a virus, nothing too serious but enough to rule him out of the Herbert Power this weekend and obviously a Caulfield Cup start," Slade said.

"He has been set for the Tatts Cup now and we will go from there."

The Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m) is at Randwick on October 20, Caulfield Cup day.

Julienas has had four starts in Australia, placing at his first two runs before claiming the Wyong feature.

He was beaten a short neck by subsequent Metropolitan runner-up Kelinni in the Group Three Colin Stephen Quality at his latest appearance on September 29.
