Another 2yo winner for Snitzel

Sunday 21 May 2017, 4:37pm

Shadow Dancer has increased Snitzel's record total of two-year-old winners with her victory at Rotorua.

Snitzel set a new mark for individual juvenile winners in a season on Saturday when the Gerald Ryan-trained Pymble made it 31 at Newcastle.

The previous record was held by Without Fear who reached 30 in 1975/76.

The Stephen Marsh-trained Shadow Dancer, who won her debut on Sunday, is one of two two-year-old winners for Snitzel in New Zealand this season, the other being Group One winner Summer Passage trained by Lance O'Sullivan and Andrew Scott.

Ryan trained Snitzel throughout his career, which included victory in the 2006 Group One Oakleigh Plate.

Standing alongside his sire Redoute's Choice at Arrowfield, Snitzel has produced 24 individual stakes winners of 29 black-type races this season and is on target to pass the mark set by his grandsire Danehill of 26 stakeswinners of 33 stakes races set in 2001/02.

"That's the thing now, to beat Danehill," Arrowfield Stud boss John Messara said.

"He is close to the biggest result Danehill ever had."

Snitzel, who will stand for a career-high $176,000 in the new season, leads the general sires' lists for the number of winners in season and the most prize money won.
