Untamed Diamond a cut above at Rosehill

A stakes race at Scone was beyond her but Untamed Diamond has proved a cut above at Rosehill to continue her progression to black type since arriving from New Zealand.

The four-year-old mare raced in Listed or Group company three times before Richard Collett brought her to Warwick Farm, and a similar step-up in Australia remains the goal.

"I really wanted to be at Scone next week and not run here but her rating was just a bit low to guarantee we'd get a start in the stakes race. That's our aim," Collett said after Untamed Diamond dominated the run down the straight to beat outsider Frill Seeking ($21) by a length in the benchmark 85 handicap.

Knit 'N' Purl ($5.50) was another length back in third.

Untamed Diamond has not finished worse than second in this preparation and notched back-to-back wins after Collett watched his son Jason navigate her home in a BM81 at Randwick during The Championships.

"She's never gives a bad race, she's never given a decent draw and she's toughed it out. She overcomes the odds. She's honest," Collett said.

"I bought her over from New Zealand and she's copped bad weights but she's got stronger and learnt to race better."

Untamed Diamond started this preparation at Randwick on February 13 and after decent spacing between starts, Collett was unsure about her next target.

"We're just chipping away to get enough rating points to get in stakes races."

Apprentice Deanne Panya was confident Untamed Diamond could ultimately make the step up in class.

"She seems to come back a stronger mare this time around. She's always fighting home strong," she said.
