Kevin Kemp sold on good barrier idea

Friday 5 May 2017, 1:33pm

Trainer Kevin Kemp is resigned to having to wait at least another week before he can test a theory about Sold For Song.

The mare has drawn barrier 16 in the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday, continuing her run of bad barriers.

Sold For Song goes to the race off a ninth inteh Group One Coolmore Classic when she started from 14 of 19.

"I really want to one day get a decent barrier so I can have her ridden closer to the pace in her races," Kemp said.

"I mean it is not much use running sub 33.5 seconds for your final 600m when you are coming from last."

"If she was closer on the turn she would make short work of them."

Kemp is hoping class will carry Sold For Song a long way on Saturday with the mare to be ridden by premier Brisbane jockey Jeff Lloyd.

"By my count only four of Saturday's Silk Stocking field would have made the Coolmore field so we might have an edge," he said.

Sold For Song has been nominated for three Group One winter carnival races - the Doomben 10,000, Kingsford Smith Cup and the Stradbroke Handicap.

"It is just great to have a horse good enough to run in these races," Kemp said.
