Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune has undergone surgery to remove bone chips from his front fetlock joints.

While trainer Darren Weir says the horse will not be affected by the issue, it is nevertheless a slight concern.

"We expect him to make a full recovery, no big deal at all," Weir said.

The former French-trained stayer has created a tremendous impression in Australia graduating from restricted company to win his last three starts in stakes company, the latest a dead-heat victory in the Blamey Stakes at Flemington two weeks ago.

Weir said heat had developed in Puissance De Lune's front legs after the Blamey.

"He went back to the beach for a few days and there was still some heat so we had him X-rayed yesterday," Weir said.

"The vets say his racing prospects are great.

"It's about the same as a footballer having an end of season clean-up."

Puissance De Lune has been favourite for the Melbourne Cup since he won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes last spring and retains that position at $6.50.
