Jim Orman wins for mum at Ipswich

Wednesday 26 April 2017, 4:40pm

Trainer Caroline Allardyce had to wait in line before securing her star jockey son Jim Orman to win on Amber Jewel at Ipswich.

Amber Jewel ($5.50) confirmed her rating as a first-up specialist when she made it three wins from three attempts fresh in Wednesday's Class Three Plate (1020m)

After showing plenty of pace Amber Jewel scored by half a length from Tactitian ($4.80).

Orman has been riding Tactitian but trainer Steve Tregea elected to use a claiming apprentice on the gelding.

The jockey was then booked for Mr Henessey but that horse was scratched when he drew wide.

"I was third in line but he got the job done eventually," Allardyce who trains a small team at Gatton, said.

"That is three from three first-up for Amber Jewel and I might turn her out so she can come back first-up again."

Another trainer with a small team, Paula Cartledge, was rewarded for her hard work when Congelator ($16) won the Class One (1570m).

Congelator had been beaten in several country races recently but Cartledge was confident he would go better at the longer distance.

"He was tried for speed as a two-year-old. But this season we have been re-educating him to settle and it has paid off the longer the races," Cartledge, who has only three horses in work, said.

Leading apprentice Tiffani Brooker continued her great run for trainer Dan Bougoure when Rogali ($15) won the Benchmark 75 (1570m).

It was Brooker's fifth winner for Bougoure from just 10 rides this season.

"Tiff is liking having a senior rider with a two-kilo claim," Bougoure said.

The win further extended Brooker's lead over the suspended Alannah Fancourt in the Brisbane apprentice's premiership.
