Cabin Fever stakes bound after upset win

Saturday 22 April 2017, 1:14pm

The fledgling Gillian Heinrich-Ben Rogers training partnership will have a chance to win their first stakes race with upset Doomben winner Cabin Fever.

Ridden a patient race by Tegan Harrison, Cabin Fever ($26) finished strongly to beat Cooroi Chase ($3) by long neck in the Mandate 2YO Plate (1050m).

Heinrich was one of Queensland's leading trainers for many years but due to ill health elected to go into partnership with Rogers, her foreman, late last year.

Cabin Fever gave them their third city win and Rogers is sure there are more in store for the filly.

"She has shown a lot of ability but like many two-year-olds she has been immature," he said.

"We gave her a good break after her first start in November and she has come back much better.

"She will press on to the Group Three Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast in a fortnight.

"Gillian has won it a few times and would love to win it again."

Cabin Fever is out of the former handy race mare Feline flyer but cost only $6000.

The Toby Edmonds trained Eptimum was heavily backed into $2.30 but after leading faded to run fifth.

Earlier, one of Edmonds' favourite horses Mr Lebrock scored his first win since December 2015, when he took the Mandate Handicap (2200m).

"Everyone hates him because of the way he behaves around the stables. But I love him and it means I am a bit emotional," Edmonds said.

"He went missing last campaign but this time he has been building up to a win."
