More Joyous missing from Cup decs

Tuesday 9 October 2012, 2:53pm

Melbourne Cup plans for More Joyous have been shelved, leaving the Cox Plate as the glamour mare's major spring target.

More Joyous, an entry for Saturday's Toorak Handicap, was missing when Melbourne Cup first acceptances were taken on Tuesday.

Thirteen international horses remain in contention for a Melbourne Cup start out of the latest 67 declarations.

Green Moon, Manighar and Shoot Out have been withdrawn from the Caulfield Cup to concentrate on the Cox Plate.

When third Caulfield Cup acceptances were taken, 41 horses were left in Saturday week's $2.5 million race, including eight from overseas trainers.

Afsare, Americain and Shahwardi are the only internationals left in the Cox Plate.

After third acceptances for the weight-for-age race, 24 horses are still in contention for a start.

Included among the remaining entry are four three-year-olds - Caulfield Guineas runners Pierro, Epaulette and All To Hard.

Pierro's stablemate Proisir, beaten for the first time when second to It's A Dundeel in the Spring Champion Stakes on Saturday, completes the quartet.

Caulfield Cup favourite Glencadam Gold is now safely into the field after Tuesday's pay-ups and firmed to $4.80 in updated markets.
