Corey Brown granted Singapore licence

Tuesday 19 March 2013, 4:35pm

Corey Brown has been granted a short-term licence to ride in Singapore but the leading Sydney jockey will consider his options before taking up the offer.

The Singapore Turf Club announced Brown has been given a two-month licence, starting on May 1.

While a Singapore stint would come after Brown completes Sydney autumn carnival commitments, his booking agent Brett Grant says it might not fit into the Melbourne Cup-winning rider's schedule.

"There are a few things to work out with stables here to see if it is viable to go," Grant said.

"The Brisbane carnival has also got to be taken into consideration."

What is more certain for Brown is a mid-year European riding stint.

"Corey is looking to spend six to eight weeks in Europe," Grant said.

Brown's decision to at least spend some of the back end of the Australian racing season overseas virtually rules him out of contention for the Sydney jockeys' premiership.

In a keenly contested title race, Brown is only 8-1/2 wins behind front-runner Hugh Bowman in fourth place after riding Snitzerland to victory in the Group Two Challenge Stakes at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Brown won the 2001/02 premiership and has been runner-up on four occasions.

During a 20-year career he has ridden 35 Group One winners, highlighted by Shocking's 2009 Melbourne Cup triumph.

He will be hoping to add to that tally on Saturday with solid chances in each of the three Group One races at Rosehill on Saturday.

Brown will ride Red Tracer (Coolmore Classic), Gatewood (Ranvet Stakes) and Rain Affair (Canterbury Stakes).
