Gosford meeting on ice after downpour

Thursday 30 March 2017, 5:47pm

An intense downpour has forced a 24-hour delay to the Gosford Guineas meeting.

A track inspection by stewards plus senior riders Hugh Bowman and Josh Parr on Thursday determined the track was unsafe.

The call was made at 1.20pm, five minutes before an eight-race card highlighted by the $150,000 Gosford Guineas (1200m), was due to get underway.

Another track inspection and an encouraging weather forecast has the club confident the meeting will take place on Friday.

Chief steward Marc Van Gestel said the weather had cleared by late afternoon although there was still some surface water near the 1600m..

"A further track inspection will be conducted tomorrow morning at 6am and should the club receive favourable conditions overnight they are confident of the meeting proceeding tomorrow," Van Gestel said.

It is the third time weather has impacted on a meeting at Gosford this month.
