Mufhasa's throat surgery successful

Monday 18 March 2013, 5:54pm

New Zealand champion King Mufhasa is free to resume his Sydney autumn campaign after undergoing successful throat surgery.

The 10-time Group One winner was found to have an epiglottic entrapment after his failure in the Chipping Norton Stakes earlier this month.

Trainer Bruce Wallace told Racing NSW stewards an endoscopic examination of King Mufhasa on Tuesday confirmed the success of the surgery and he would now resume normal training.

The horse needs to complete a barrier trial to comply with the stewards' request and he has been entered for a 750m heat at Randwick on Friday.

The eight-year-old who races as Mufhasa in his homeland, is the reigning New Zealand Horse of the Year.

He was controversially removed from Stephen McKee's stable a few weeks ago and sent to Wallace.

The best of his three runs this preparation was his third behind star three-year-old All Too Hard in the Futurity Stakes last month.

He has competed in the past four runnings of the George Ryder Stakes running third in 2009 and 2010.

He was unplaced in 2011 and fourth last year.

This year's Group One George Ryder (1500m) is on April 6.
