Lloyd equals Brisbane wins record

Saturday 25 March 2017, 2:15pm

Jeff Lloyd has produced one of his best rides to equal the record for the number of wins in a Brisbane metropolitan jockeys premiership.

Lloyd brought up win number 103 when he drove Caillebotte ($4.80) along the fence and held on to beat Outraged ($3.90) by a nose in the open handicap (2200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

The former South African jockey is now certain to break Chris Munce's record of 103 set in the 2011-12 season.

He had an off-the-track win on Friday when his suspension from a ride on Houtzen in the Golden Slipper was reduced on appeal from six to three meetings.

"I will now only miss one Saturday, which is next week, but I will be back to ride at the Weetwood meeting (April 8), which is the start of the winter carnival," Lloyd said.

"It has been a great season and hopefully I can continue to ride winners on a consistent basis. It is a credit to my manager (Cameron Partington) and the trainers such as Matt Dunn, Toby Edmonds and co who have supported me."

Dunn trains Caillebotte and gave much of the credit for the win to Lloyd.

"Like most stayers he has been a victim of slow pace at some of his recent starts. But Jeff was able to ride him closer and then got the run in the straight at the right time," Dunn said.

"It is why he is such a good jockey."

Caillebotte had won on a heavy track in France but Dunn was not certain he would handle the heavy 10 track on Saturday.

"He had struggled on some soft tracks but it is a case of different wet tracks having different type surfaces," Dunn said.

Caillebotte, who had not won for nearly a year, is likely to chase the Toowoomba Cup (2000m) in a fortnight.
