Sydney trip unlikely for Eminent

Wednesday 22 March 2017, 3:40pm

A trip to Sydney for two-year-old Eminent is now unlikely after he was beaten into second place as the odds-on favourite in a midweek race at Doomben.

Eminent ($1.60) hit the lead in the straight but could not match it with the lightly weighted Marseille En Fleur ($7.50) in Wednesday's Two-Year-Old Hcp (1350m).

The race time of 1.26.6 was one of the slowest recorded at Doomben for 1350m and confirmed the track rating of a genuine heavy 10.

Trainer David Vandyke had been planning to take Eminent to Sydney for the Fernhill Handicap and Group One Champagne Stakes in Sydney next month.

"I know he had to give the winner eight kilos and it was a bog track. But he had to win that to justify going to Sydney," Vandyke said.

"It is unlikely we will be going now."

Vandyke said one certainty was that he would be taking the blinkers off Eminent.

"He got to the lead early in the straight and then lost sight of the winner," he said.

"The blinkers will be coming off for his next start."

Vandyke said it was now likely Eminent would be set for the feature two-year-old races during the Brisbane winter carnival.
