Nikolic loses bid to appeal racecourse ban

Wednesday 8 March 2017, 10:15am

Jockey Danny Nikolic has lost a High Court bid to appeal a police ban on him attending racecourses.

Once one of Australia's most successful jockeys, Nikolic has been on the sidelines since September 2012 when he was disqualified for two years for threatening a steward.

His ban was extended for another year and then in October 2015, police banned him from specific racecourses.

Nikolic challenged the police exclusion order but the ban was upheld in the Victorian Supreme Court in 2016 so Nikolic appealed to the High Court in Canberra.

The High Court on Wednesday rejected Nikolic's application for special leave to appeal and awarded costs to the respondent, Victoria Police's chief commissioner.
