One-eyed blinker call for Jalan Jalan

Friday 3 March 2017, 2:59pm

Colin Little has applied a one-eyed blinker to Jalan Jalan in a bid to get the mare back to winning form at Flemington.

Jalan Jalan runs in Saturday's Frances Tressady Stakes, her first try at 1400m.

Her trainer says the four-year-old has lost the dash she showed as a younger horse.

"She seems to have lost a little bit of her speed but she is out of a Generous mare that was a 2000-metre horse," Little said.

"Maybe she's reverting to that.

"She tends to float when she gets inside horses and tends to lay in so we've taken the risk of putting a one-eyed blinker on her, on the inside, to try and keep her straight."

Little worked the mare in the gear on Tuesday and said she was keen but had adapted to it since.

Jalan Jalan's latest win came at Flemington in July, 2015 before a Group Three placing at Caulfield the following month.

Without winning in her autumn campaign, she did split Miss Promiscuity and The Quarterback at Caulfield second-up in a rich Super VOBIS race.

But Little said Jalan Jalan did not spell well following that campaign and raced below par in the spring.

"We went into a spring with a horse we weren't 100 per cent happy with," he said.

"She looked bad in the coat and consequently was very disappointing.

"We did find a little bug in a lung so she had a few days of antibiotics and a spell.

"She looks great at the moment but her runs this time in have just been so-so."
