Can't Remember's Blue Diamond Prelude run is one trainer John Moloney would rather forget but he is looking for the colt to show what he is capable of in another stakes race at Flemington.

Moloney had aspirations to head to the Blue Diamond with Can't Remember but those were shelved when the two-year-old finished last in the colts and geldings Prelude at Caulfield.

"Obviously he was disappointing last start but he did fire up too much in the parade and unsettled himself, so therefore he didn't run to his best," Moloney said.

"He was just too new for the day and didn't act well in the parade and therefore he ran his race before he went out for the race."

The Caulfield trainer has pressed on with Can't Remember's preparation to Saturday's 3AW is Football Stakes (1000m) and expects him to run well so long as he puts it all together on the day.

Can't Remember ran well for second to Azazel on debut at Moonee Valley in October and Moloney said the colt had also shown promise at home and in his trial win at Geelong leading into his Caulfield return.

"You can't say he's this or that until you prove your worth, so that's up to the horse now," he said.

"But he's certainly shown that he's in good order at home and his work has been fine. And leading into that race at Caulfield everything had been good.

"So we're certainly happy to be taking our place in the race on Saturday.

"It's just a matter of now presenting at the races in better shape and I expect the horse to run really well.

"If he can manage himself, I'd like to think he could run in the top three."

Stakes-winning filly Madeenaty is the $2.30 favourite for Saturday's straight-track race which has a field of 13.

Madeenaty hasn't started since her third in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January.
