Crafty Irna treads a familiar autumn path

Friday 15 March 2013, 4:38pm

Crafty Irna didn't win during the 2012 autumn carnival but she produced results good enough for trainer Ron Quinton to replicate the campaign.

With that in mind, Quinton says Crafty Irna is in career-best shape for the $100,000 Aspiration Quality at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

"Her last couple of preparations have been nearly identical and I'm confident I've got her going as good as she ever has," Quinton said.

In a wide-open end to racing on Randwick Guineas day, Crafty Irna is vying for favouritism in the Aspiration.

"She's only ever won once at sixteen hundred metres and she's got fifty nine kilos but she's earned that weight," Quinton said.

Crafty Irna is the winner of four races, two of them coming during last year's spring carnival, including a Listed victory over 2400m when apprentice Sam Clipperton was in the saddle.

As she did last year, Crafty Irna resumed in the Millie Fox Stakes and she heads towards the Epona Stakes - a Group Three race over 1900m at Rosehill - after Saturday's run.

Challenge Stakes favourite Hay List underwent a further veterinary examination on Friday morning and remains on target to resume in the weight-for-age sprint.

Likewise, the popular sprinter's jockey Glyn Schofield has told stewards a back complaint that forced him out of riding on Wednesday and Thursday is on the mend.

Schofield's Warwick Farm book has been reduced to just three rides after his Randwick Guineas mount High Shot was scratched on Friday.
