Moloney to appeal improper riding ban

Friday 17 February 2017, 6:26pm

Jockey Patrick Moloney will appeal an improper riding ban after being suspended for 28 meetings.

Moloney was found guilty of improper riding for an incident at the 1500m mark of a 2219m race at Sale on Tuesday aboard Percivall Pott.

Stewards issued the penalty at an adjourned inquiry at the Pakenham meeting on Thursday night.

Moloney has started his suspension and pending the outcome of the appeal, he can return on Australian Cup and Newmarket Handicap day on March 11.

The improper riding ban is due to be served concurrently with a nine-meeting careless riding ban he incurred in the same race after pleading guilty to shifting out at the 200m mark.
