Randwick heat delay to help Junction

Sunday 12 February 2017, 2:31pm

Sydney's heat could provide an unexpected bonus for Gold Coast youngster Junction as he tackles the $250,000 Inglis Classic at Randwick.

The Bryan and Daniel Guy-trained Junction, who is one of only two winners in the Classic, did not arrive in Sydney until Friday.

The Guys were met with stifling conditions which led race officials to postpone the meeting from Saturday to Monday.

Daniel Guy said Junction had travelled well to Sydney and seemed to be settling in.

"To have an extra three days to acclimatise in the heat is a bonus for us. He is one of only two winners in the field and he does appear to be good odds," Guy said.

He said whether Junction remained in Sydney or headed home to tackle QTIS bonus races in Queensland would be decided after Monday's race.

Daniel Guy has an extra reason to hope Junction races well as he has a share in the ownership of the gelding who cost $55,000 as a yearling.

"To buy only one at last year's sale and get to the Classic is an achievement in itself," he said.

Junction is a $17 chance with Widden Stakes placegetter Sweet Deal the $4 favourite for trainer John Thompson and jockey Jason Collett.

Ultramarine, one of three runners for Peter and Paul Snowden is at $5.50 with the Peter Robl-trained debutante She's On Que at $6.50.
