Trainer Kelso Wood is confident the promising Snitzkraft is a lot more than just a speedster and will have no trouble handling longer trips as he steps up in grade.

Snitzkraft will be favourite for the final two-year-old feature of the Queensland summer in the $125,000 Sunshine Coast Classic (1200m) on Saturday.

The colt will then most likely have a break before the winter carnival although there is a chance he could head to Sydney during the autumn.

Snitzkraft has had an impressive, albeit unlucky, start to his career with his three starts producing different types of runs.

At his first start he showed brilliant pace from a wide barrier to lead until the final 50m when second to Ours To Keep in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes last month.

He was then favourite for the Group Three B J McLachlan Stakes at Eagle Farm on New Year's Eve when he was trapped deep before fading in the straight.

Snitzkraft showed what he could do when he led in a Doomben two-year-old maiden on January 18 and strolled home to an 8-1/4 length victory.

His time of 1.09.97 took nearly three seconds off the previous class record which was held by now open company performer In His Stride.

Snitzkraft's winning margin was also the biggest by a juvenile at Doomben since later multiple Group One winner Stylish Century won his first start 30 years ago.

However, Wood is sure Snitzkraft will prove much more than speed machine as the races get longer.

"He can settle in the lead and on his breeding he might even get a middle distance. His dam Power O'Raylee was a very good mare and won over a bit of ground," Wood said.

"I will make up my mind about where to go after Saturday's race. I am inclined to go to the winter and then the spring because I think he is a very good horse."

"But it will be up to the owners."

Wood said Snitzkraft would need to build his prize money pool to be sure of getting into the better races.

The wily trainer knows all about handling good two-year-olds and has had many top performers including the 2012 J J Atkins winner Sizzling, who like Snitzkraft, is by top sire Snitzel.

Long-time Wood client Mick Power retained Snitzkraft after he was passed in when he didn't reach his $300,000 reserve at the Magic Millions sales.

Power O'Raylee won five races up to 2050m for Power when trained by Peter Moody while Snitzel has already had 16 individual two-year-old winners this season.
