Golden Archer gets first winner as a sire

Wednesday 11 January 2017, 5:32pm

Rookie sire Golden Archer has had a timely first winner with Lady Lark's success at Eagle Farm.

Lady Lark ($5) sat three-deep without cover but was still too strong in a Two-Year-Old Maiden (1200m) on Wednesday.

The Peter Moody-trained Golden Archer was a multiple stakes winner and finished third in the 2013 Group One Lightning Stakes behind stablemates Black Caviar and Moment Of Change.

He stands at Basil Nolan's Raheen Stud with Nolan leasing the Desleigh Forster-trained Lady Lark to several family friends.

"With the yearling sales starting in Queensland it was the perfect time for Golden Archer to get his first winner," Forster said.

"He has actually had another horse first past the post in Rockhampton but it lost on protest."

Forster has several horses for Nolan including the promising filly Meadow who she hopes will make a Queensland Oaks runner in the winter.

Lady Lark was the second of three winners at the meeting for jockey Robbie Fradd who also won on What's That ($1.75) and Precipitate ($1.85).

Precipitate, who remains unbeaten in four starts, carries the black and pink colours of Canning Downs Stud made famous by the prolific stakes winner of the 1960s and 70s, Tails.

Canning Downs' John Barnes and his wife Joy bred Precipitate who is by former top sprinter Masked Assassin, a son of the couple's stakes winning mare Duk Duk.

"Masked Assassin is at Burwood Stud these days and hopefully Precipitate's efforts will see him get a full book of mares," John Barnes said.

Trainer Tony Gollan had a winning double at the meeting with What's That and River Fire to take him to 42 winners for the season, seven in front of Robert Heathcote.
