Black type company now for in form mare

Sunday 11 December 2016, 12:47pm

Such has been the transformation of Hell Or Highwater the Lindsay Park stable is now looking at a return to stakes racing for the mare.

Hell Or Highwater recorded her fifth win from her past six starts when successful in the Hollywood Nails Handicap (1700m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig said she may now head to the Listed Lord Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield on Boxing Day.

Hell Or Highwater last raced in stakes company at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day in 2015.

The addition of blinkers has turned around the fortunes of Hell Or Highwater this campaign with her only "poor" performance since the headgear has been fitted a midfield finish at Flemington last month.

"She found her form when we put her into blinkers and you often see when mares hit a purple patch of form they can hold it," Dabernig said.

"She's now a multiple city winner and we might try and get a little black type with her now.

"We might nominate for the Lord Stakes at Caulfield on Boxing Day but we'll see how she pulls up and make that decision closer to the race.

"She sits on pace so it's worth having a look at it for sure."

Meanwhile Black Caviar's first foal Oscietra has come through her first public appearance at Flemington last Friday in excellent shape.

The two-year-old showed blistering speed from the barriers to lead home the 800m jump-out.

"She pulled up really well," Dabernig said.

"She'll get a lot of benefit from that as she's still learning but she was able to win that trial on the bridle.

"She'll have one more trial and then we'll work out whether she's ready to go to the races."
