Hugh Bowman wins Jockeys' Championship

Thursday 8 December 2016, 6:16am

Australian Hugh Bowman has held on to beat English rider Ryan Moore to win the International Jockeys' Championship at Happy Valley in Hong Kong.

Bowman and Moore each rode a winner in the four-race series on Wednesday night with Bowman grabbing valuable points for a second place.

It was the third time Bowman had been invited to ride in the challenge against jockeys from around the world.

Bowman earned $HK500,000 ($A86,000) for his efforts.

"It's a great honour to win the International Jockeys' Championship against some of the best here in Hong Kong during International week," Bowman said.

"I came here quietly confident I could figure, because I had significantly enough rides to score enough points, but you need luck in running."

The Happy Valley meeting is part of the celebrations leading up to Hong Kong's biggest day of racing on Sunday featuring four Group One races at Sha Tin.
