In Cahoots out to confirm early potential

Thursday 7 March 2013, 3:41pm

Bloodstock agents with deep pockets already have a measure on the ability of two-year-old In Cahoots but trainer Phillip Atkins will assess the colt's return to racing before making up his own mind.

In Cahoots will resume in the Lonhro Plate at Warwick Farm on Saturday with a formline that rates up there with the best in Sydney this season.

His second to Assail, giving the unbeaten filly 4.5kg, raised Atkins's hopes he might be training something above average.

The trainer's suspicions were then given foundation when overseas interest was shown in the colt who cost $10,000.

"We knocked back a couple of sizeable offers for him from Singapore and Hong Kong," Atkins said.

Atkins expects In Cahoots in some way to justify the faith shown in the horse despite bookmakers' double-figure assessment of his chances for the $100,000 race.

"We are just going to test him out on Saturday to see how good he is," Atkins said.

"I've been very pleased with his trials and his work on Tuesday was probably the best trackwork he's ever done."

The most recent of In Cahoots' two trials resulted in a win over the well-regarded Napayshini at Wyong but it is the Assail form reference which has Atkins thinking his horse won't be out of his depth at Warwick Farm.

"Assail put three lengths on him when they straightened up but he cut that back to a length on the post," Atkins said.
