Zielke settled at new Toowoomba base

Thursday 24 November 2016, 4:37pm

Having made the move from the Sunshine Coast, trainer John Zielke is ready to send out his first metropolitan runners from his new Toowoomba base.

Zielke set a record for the most two-year-old winners trained in the state last season with 15 when he was based at the Sunshine Coast and is looking to continue his success with Bold Kingston at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The trainer has had a couple of runners at provincial tracks while he has been renting boxes until his new stable complex is ready on January 1.

"Basically we needed more room and we couldn't get enough boxes at the Sunshine Coast. I have a family connection to Toowoomba and it is a great place to train," Zielke said.

"I have signed the lease from New Year's day and they tell me the stables will be ready by then."

Bold Kingston will take on five runners from the Gillian Heinrich-Ben Rogers team, who are in the unusual position of being the top five in the betting.

But Bold Kingston won at Rockhampton at his last start and Zielke is confident he is ready for the city.

"The 1200 metres should suit him very well and Josh Oliver's two kilos claim is a bonus," Zielke said.

As well as Bold Kingston, Zielke will have Spot The Diff in the Three-Year-Old Handicap on Saturday.

Spot The Diff, who won five races as a juvenile, will be having her third start this campaign and Zielke believes she is ready for the step up to 1400m.
