Kerrin McEvoy after more Sandown success

Friday 11 November 2016, 4:48pm

Kerrin McEvoy has been a regular in the winner's circle at Sandown's feature spring meeting in recent seasons and has a book of rides which suggests he can again make an impact.

Since 2007, McEvoy has ridden 14 winners at the meeting including a winning treble last year and a double in 2014.

He has won four Sandown Guineas, the most recent being on Paximadia in 2013 when the meeting was held at Caulfield, while he won the Zipping Classic two years ago on Au Revoir.

On Saturday, McEvoy heads to Sandown for eight rides including the Charlie Appleby-trained Qewy who is the $2 favourite for the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m).

Cool Chap is also an early favourite at $4.80 in the Group Three Eclipse Stakes while Petition ($5.50), Brockoff ($6) and two-year-old Vinland ($6) are also well supoprted for their respective races.

McEvoy doesn't have a ride in the Guineas while Tristram's Sun is an outsider in the Zipping Classic.

"I've had a good run at Sandown the last few years at this meeting so I'm really looking forward to getting there tomorrow," McEvoy Melbourne's RSN927 on Friday.

McEvoy has had a big spring, claiming his second Melbourne Cup win on Almandin at the start of this month and earlier this week his wife Cathy gave birth to their fourth child, a baby girl.

McEvoy won the Geelong Cup on Qewy last month while Craig Williams was aboard the stayer when he finished fourth in the Melbourne Cup.

"I'm looking forward to riding him tomorrow," McEvoy said.

"It's looking like his race to lose, it's just whether he can come back from the Melbourne Cup."

The jockey was taken by the performance of Petition when she finished second to subsequent stakes winner Jennifer Lynn at Caulfield.

Petition runs in the Twilight Glow Stakes.

"Sandown should suit her, a nice uphill finish, and she's going to take a power of beating I reckon," McEvoy said.
