Steve Tregea gets a belated chance to test his theory about promising mare Kim Noir.

Tregea believes Kim Noir, a last start midweek Doomben winner, has a good race in her provided she can be taught to settle.

Kim Noir steps up in class in the Duff Memorial (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Tregea has been teaching the mare to race in behind and was bemused when she led all the way to win at Doomben two weeks ago.

Apprentice Josh Oliver apologised to Tregea for leading in the race as he realised the work that has gone into getting Kim Noir to settle behind the pace.

"It wasn't Josh's fault and I actually considered scratching her from that race as she looked the only leader. That is how it turn out," Tregea said.

"She will be handy once she learns to settle."

Kim Noir, who Tregea bred, has been lightly raced and will be having her 12th start on Saturday.
