Double Superlative continues family record

Wednesday 26 October 2016, 5:32pm

Well bred Double Superlative has continued his family's record-breaking habit at Doomben with an easy win in a Class 1 race over 1350 metres.

Double Superlative ($1.75), who had been placed in stronger company at his two previous starts, ran a class record to win on Wednesday.

He is by Group One winner Turffontein out of the Red Ransom mare Kidnapper making him a half brother to dual stakes winner Cape Kidnappers and five time winner Tiger Dimejam.

Double Superlative's time was the 12th class or course record set by Kidnapper and her offspring at Doomben over the past 15 years.

Trainer Kelly Schweida bought Double Superlative for $170,000 at a Magic Millions sale and said it was money well spent.

"He is a nice type of horse and today will have boosted his confidence. It was a QTIS bonus race today and we will head back to Saturdays for more QTIS money," Schweida said.

Former top two-year-old Sundance ($2.80) also ran a class record and was just outside the course record, winning the Veuve Society Hcp (1050m).

Trainer Toby Edmonds scratched Sundance, who won the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes last season as a juvenile, from an Eagle Farm open race on Saturday to run at the midweek meeting.

"Sundance is a gelding now. He has been going well in track work. Well at least I thought he was but Jeff (jockey Lloyd) told me he wasn't and didn't want to ride him today. So Jim Byrne got the ride," Edmonds said.
