Wait for Oliver reckless riding ruling

Friday 21 October 2016, 11:23am

Champion jockey Damien Oliver must wait to find out if his reckless riding charge will be downgraded and if he can ride in next weekend's Victoria Derby meeting.

Oliver admits he is guilty of the lesser offence of careless riding but wants the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal to clear him of reckless riding.

Racing Victoria barrister Paul Holdenson QC said stewards strongly contend Oliver's riding in the Blue Sapphire Stakes on October 12 took him well outside the boundaries of careless riding and well into the arena of reckless riding.

Judge Pamela Jenkins will announce her decision on the reckless riding charge on Monday morning before hearing submissions on penalty.

Oliver is missing the ride on French horse Vadamos in Saturday's Cox Plate but hopes to have his 20-meeting suspension reduced so he can return for the Victoria Derby meeting on October 29.
