In Times Of War breaks maiden at the Farm

A midweek win by In Times of War may have booked the filly a shot at a stakes race during the Melbourne spring carnival.

Trainer Chris Waller's racing manager Charlie Duckworth said a fillies race at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup carnival would be the next step for the three-year-old after her win in Wednesday's Hyland Racing Colours Maiden Plate (1100m) at Warwick Farm .

"She has been very unlucky in her two career starts and it is just good to see her actually finally show us what she has got," Duckworth said.

"The aim was to go down to Melbourne so hopefully and if she comes out of this well she can take the next step."

In Times Of War sat three-wide but had no trouble mowing down the Les Bridge-trained debutante Zonk ($4.40) and Slumber Party ($3.80).

Duckworth said the filly, who was sent out the $1.90 favourite, still had room for improvement.

"She has only been beaten in the previous two starts from being too green to put them away properly," he said.

"She knows what she is doing but at the same time, as soon as she did hit the front her ears were still very much pricked and she was only doing enough I think all the way to the line."

Jockey Brenton Avdulla said In Times Of War was comfortable sitting wide given there was only one turn into the home bend.

"When she learns and figures out what it's all about I'm sure she'll make a nice little stakes filly," Avdulla said.
