Sheidel in line for Group One start

Saturday 8 October 2016, 3:46pm

Sheidel might have earned herself a shot at the Group One Manikato Stakes against some of Australia's best sprinters with a tough win at Caulfield.

Giving the training partnership of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig their third stakes win from the first five races on Saturday's Caulfield Guineas program, Sheidel sat on the speed and then responded when challenged inside the final 200m to win the Group Three Cape Grim Beef Steaks (1200m) by a long neck.

Silent Sedition ran well in her season return for second with the same margin to A Lotta Love who ran on for third.

Sheidel was narrowly beaten in the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) for fillies and mares in Adelaide in May, and David Hayes says this month's Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley is now an option.

"She'll hold a nomination in the Manikato because she's pretty well done everything except win a Group One," Hayes said.

Sheidel's 13th win of her career came after stablemates Wait For No One and Hear The Chant were successful earlier on the program.

The five-year-old was fourth in the McEwen Stakes first-up and then was chased down by Hellbent at Caulfield last start.

"She's been building up to that," Dabernig said.

"She's got a good record here at Caulfield. James McDonald is a fantastic jockey, he had her up on the pace and she was hard-fit and got the job done."
