Wait For No One holds on for debut win

Saturday 8 October 2016, 1:07pm

Two-year-old colt Wait For No One has done just that in his race debut, leading all the way in the Listed Debutant Stakes at Caulfield.

Wait For No One bounced to the front in Saturday's 1000m race for juveniles and had company on his outside before kicking away approaching the home turn.

The Clinton McDonald-trained filly Spoils ($7.50) gave chase as favourite Wait For No One ($4) started to feel the pinch in the last 50m but he was able to hang on by a short half-head with Miss Wahoo ($5.50) 1-3/4 lengths away third.

The victory maintained a strong start for Lindsay Park with this season's two-year-olds after Madeenaty raced to an impressive win in last Sunday at Flemington.

"I think we have a nice bunch of two-year-olds," trainer David Hayes said.

"They were working and trialling well for the last couple of weeks but it's always nice to see them come out and do it."

Hayes said Wait For No One could head to the Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington while the highly talented Madeenaty was likely to run in a Group Three race for two-year-old fillies during the Flemington carnival.

"He's a pretty good colt this one, but I think she (Madeenaty) is a bit freaky," Hayes said.

Hayes believes the win of Wait For No One, a son of Lonhro out of Divine, had merit despite the narrow margin.

"The horse that nearly beat him had the dream run and we did all the work at the front," he said.
