McDonald suspended for Caulfield Cup day

Monday 3 October 2016, 6:24pm

Fresh from winning two Group One races in as many days, James McDonald has been brought back to earth with a suspension which could stop him riding in the Caulfield Cup.

Godolphin's No. 1 jockey partnered Hauraki to victory in the Epsom Handicap at Randwick on Saturday before riding Hartnell to his Turnbull Stakes win at Flemington on Sunday.

The star jockey pleaded guilty to careless riding aboard Medaille in the TAB Handicap at Warwick Farm on Monday.

Medaille, who finished second in the race, shifted out in the path of Jason Collett's mount Lucienne in the straight.

Godolphin hold a host of nominations for the Caulfield Cup on October 15 including Hartnell, Scottish, Tally and Its Somewhat.

The five-meeting suspension means McDonald will be out from October 9 and allowed to resume riding in races on October 17.

He has one day to decided whether he will appeal the decision.
