Sofia Rosa's Melbourne campaign over

Monday 3 October 2016, 1:11pm

Sofia Rosa will return home to New Zealand after another disappointing performance in Melbourne.

The Australian Oaks winner has been unplaced in three spring starts including Sunday's Group One Turnbull Stakes and Caulfield Cup plans have been abandoned.

"She's not where we would want her to be. She's just growing and changing a bit and we don't want to knock her around," Bruce Perry, racing manager for the mare's owner Lib Petagna, told nzracing.co.

"She's going to come home for a break and then we'll get back and ready for the autumn."

Petagna is also a part-owner of VRC Oaks contender Eleonora who finished unplaced in Sunday's Edward Manifold Stakes after winning at Geelong.

She is trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman who also prepare Saracino who runs in Saturday's Caulfield Guineas in Petagna's colours.
