Weir with strong chances in Group Ones

Thursday 22 September 2016, 5:47am

Darren Weir has trained the winners of Melbourne's two Group One races this season and is looking to keep the run going at Caulfield.

The Weir-trained Black Heart Bart took out the Group One Memsie Stakes at Caulfield last month before stablemate Palentino denied him in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington.

Black Heart Bart is favourite for Saturday's Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield at $2.50, while stablemates Prince Of Penzance and Howard Be Thy Name are at $31 and $81 respectively.

The day's other feature is the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) and the Weir-trained Voodoo Lad is the $4.80 second favourite.

Victoria's premier trainer also has Telopea in the race.

Weir has won the past two editions of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, with Trust In A Gust successful in 2014 to give Weir his first Melbourne Group One winner, while Stratum Star won 12 months ago.
