Group One targets await for Harlow Gold

Saturday 17 September 2016, 3:29pm

A victory against the colts and geldings at Caulfield has provided the springboard to Group One targets for the filly Harlow Gold.

Harlow Gold will be aimed at the Group One Thousand Guineas and then at the VRC Oaks after winning Saturday's Ladbrokes Supports National Jockeys Trust Plate by 1-1/4 lengths in a field which contained several Victoria Derby hopefuls.

The corresponding 1600m race last year was won by Tarzino on his way to winning the Victoria Derby.

Like Tarzino, Harlow Gold is by the stallion Tavistock.

"She really looks like she'll get over ground and she's bred to," co-trainer Tom Dabernig said.

"I thought today she relaxed nicely and she's got that good turn of foot as well. She's got bigger things in front of her.

"The short term goal is we'll run her in the Thousand Guineas and then we'll be stretching her out in trip after that.

"She's very tough and very talented, so she could be the right sort of filly to do it."

Harlow Gold ($4.60) settled midfield under apprentice Regan Bayliss and worked into the race to be ready to pounce in the straight.

She hit the front inside the 200m and went on to beat Rocketeer ($5) by 1-1/4 lengths with Kaching ($5.50) coming from last to finish another three-quarters of a length away in third.
