Bryan Guy is growing in confidence his new training partnership with his son Daniel can produce a winner with their first Saturday metropolitan runner.

The Guys have Good Luck Malela who is among the main chances in the Hamilton Hotel Three-Year-Old Hcp (1500m) at Eagle Farm.

They were granted permission for their training partnership last month and have gradually been organising their workloads and team.

"We have had seven runners together but they have been at the Gold Coast and in the Northern Rivers to date. We were supposed to have out first Brisbane runner last Saturday with Buon Auspicio but the meeting got washed out," Bryan Guy said.

"It will obviously be one of the proudest days of my life if we can get our first winner together on Saturday. Dan and I are close mates and we have travelled together all over the place chasing winners when he was my stable manager."

Good Luck Malela is raced by the Chan family who have been long time supporters of Guy.

"They have been with us since back in the 1990s so to win our first race as a team for them would be something special," he said.

"They have another horse with me named Bo Bo Horse which goes OK as well."

Guy believes the 1500m will be ideal for Good Luck Malela who was second first-up at the Sunshine Coast over 1300m.

"I have always thought he would make a nice horse over some ground. Just how far he goes we will have to see," Guy sad.

Meanwhile, trainer Brian Smith will have a better idea if his filly Shuda Known Better, a last-start winner at 1400m, is headed for a staying career after the Hamilton Handicap.

"I think she eventually might be an Oaks type filly but we will see," Smith said.
