Good track key to Inzabeel win

Saturday 10 September 2016, 5:57pm

Chris Waller was denied the major prize on Golden Rose day, but dominated the undercard to come away with a winning treble.

Invinzabeel was the trainer's third victory at Rosehill on Saturday, taking out the final race at Sydney's first Group One meeting of the season.

Earlier, Mackintosh won the Group Two Theo Marks Stakes and Antonio Giuseppe made it three city wins in a row in the Schweppes Handicap.

Omei Sword ran second in the Group One Golden Rose behind Godolphin colt Astern with Waller describing the filly's performance as outstanding.

"There were some good results for our stable that's for sure," Waller said.

Invinzabeel was well supported in betting, backed in from $7 to $5 equal favourite before the race.

The five-year-old gelding landed midfield on the rail before jockey James McDonald peeled out at the 300m mark to win by 1-1/2 lengths from stablemate Dinghu Mountain ($5.50) to give the stable its second quinella of the day.

Waller said a firmer track, which was upgrade from soft to good during the meeting, was key to Invinzabeel's third win from 21 attempts.

"He struggled through the early part of winter with those softer tracks," Waller said.

"It's good to have good horses back racing on a good track."
