Pride has autumn plans for Kentucky Miss

Saturday 10 September 2016, 1:59pm

Joe Pride is already looking ahead to the Sydney autumn carnival after Kentucky Miss scored a stakes victory at Flemington.

Warwick Farm-based Pride is thinking of setting aside the filly for a feature sprint after her win in the Listed Cap D'Antibes Handicap (1100m) on Saturday.

Sent out the $4 favourite, Kentucky Miss, ridden by Damien Oliver, scored by a neck from Beyond The Dream ($201) with My Country ($9) a half-head away third.

Pride said The Galaxy in the autumn could be suitable race for the filly.

"Thrown in with no weight on her back, I think she could measure up," Pride said.

"It's a handicap and it's a good race for fillies if they're smart.

"That's why I'll be mindful of where I place her in the spring."

Pride said he was considering bringing Kentucky Miss back to Melbourne for a Group Three race at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week.

But he is mindful the filly has already made two trips to Melbourne having previously finished fifth at Caulfield in July.

"I just can't keep going to the well all the time," Pride said.

"She's extremely tough but has been up for a fair while.

"There's plenty to be considered. She's had two trips away this preparation already and you would have to say that was probably her peak run today.

"I'm just going to have to have a look at her."

Pride described Kentucky Miss as almost the perfect racehorse.

He said she's very well put together but wished she was a hand taller.
