Order Of St George heads Irish St Leger

Saturday 10 September 2016, 7:38am

Melbourne Cup favourite Order Of St George will have five opponents in his bid to win back-to-back Irish St Legers.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained horse has won his three starts since his win in the Classic a year ago.

Among his opponents on Sunday is the Ed Dunlop-trained 2015 Caulfield Cup runner-up Trip To Paris.

Last year's Ascot Gold Cup winner also ran fourth in the Melbourne Cup but suffered an injury in the Japan Cup at his next start.

He eventually returned in a Listed event at Newbury in July and performed creditably to finish third, before going on to run fourth in the Lonsdale Cup at York.

Willie Mullins is represented by Wicklow Brave, who was third in last year's St Leger.

He is also entered for the Melbourne spring carnival but the trainer's hopes of Clondaw Warrior making the trip appear over after he tailed off in the Doncaster Cup.

Order Of St George's Australian part-owner Lloyd Williams has also indicated the horse will not go to the Cups after being given 58kg top weight in the Caulfield Cup.
