Walter to up the ante for autumn carnival

Thursday 21 February 2013, 4:25pm

No trainer at Warwick Farm on Saturday will get a better insight into their autumn carnival prospects than Guy Walter.

Walter will roll out his biggest stars, headed by Group One-winning mares Appearance and Streama.

Myer Classic winner Appearance resumes in the Listed Triscay Stakes (1200m) while two-time Group One heroine Streama kicks off her campaign at Group Three level in the Southern Cross Stakes (1200m).

Both mares are headed towards next month's Coolmore Classic.

Walter will also have two starters in the Group Two Apollo Stakes (1400m), the Group One Spring Champion Stakes winner Doctor Doom and Willy Jimmy.

But it might be one of his up-and-coming gallopers who steals the limelight.

Jacquinot Bay resumes in Saturday's Canley Heights Hotel Handicap (1300m) and is the $3.50 favourite with TAB fixed odds.

The five-year-old built an imposing record at his initial campaign winning five of his six starts.

He was spelled after his all-the-way victory over 1600m at Randwick in September when ridden by Blake Shinn.

Shinn reunites with the five-year-old on Saturday after guiding him to a barrier trial victory last week and he is bullish about the gelding's future.

"He's a very exciting horse, a really progressive horse," Shinn said.

"He's a bit untapped.

"I'm really looking forward to riding him. His trial was very good, he seems to have come back better than he was last preparation."

Shinn will also ride Appearance for Walter, while Hugh Bowman continues his association with Streama.

Streama is the $3.80 favourite for her return despite the fact she is yet to win first-up in four attempts.

One of the best three-year-old fillies of her generation, Streama had a mixed spring with the highlight her Group Two Tristarc Stakes victory.
