Rawiller and Mertens suspended at Sandown

Thursday 25 August 2016, 5:55am

Brad Rawiller will appeal a 10-meeting careless riding suspension which will keep him out of the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes meeting.

Rawiller was outed at Sandown on Wednesday for his winning ride on Craven Image.

His suspension is due to begin after Saturday's meeting at Caulfield where his rides include Black Heart Bart, the favourite for the Group One Memsie Stakes.

Rawiller, who pleaded not guilty, had gone 423 rides without suspension.

Stewards also concluded an inquiry into a fall at Sandown on July 27 that resulted in Jake Bayliss and Patrick Keane having to be hospitalised.

They judged the fall to be accidental holding no rider responsible as there was a number contributing factors.
