Pierro poised for special Farm gallop

Wednesday 20 February 2013, 4:19pm

His following wouldn't be remotely close to that of Black Caviar's but star colt Pierro will still command special interest at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained three-year-old won't be racing for prize money but he will provide an intriguing sidebar to Apollo Stakes day with a solo gallop on the course proper after the first race.

The Cox Plate placegetter is due to resume in the Group Two Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday week and the exhibition gallop will be his final serious workout before then.

"He will have a good hitout, it will be his main hitout before the Hobartville the following Saturday," said Waterhouse's racing manager Bruce Slade.

"He'll be on a superior surface and it will be similar to race day conditions."

Waterhouse will have seven runners at Warwick Farm headed by Rosehill Guineas winner Laser Hawk and Glencadam Gold who both resume in the Group Two Apollo Stakes (1400m).

She will also have multiple chances in the Darby Racing Handicap (1200m) for two-year-olds with Marseille Roulette, Rockford and Mr Jackman all on target to run.

Waterhouse has the Golden Slipper favourite in Overreach, a brilliant winner at Rosehill last weekend, and Saturday's team of youngsters will also be given their chance to put themselves in the Slipper mix.

"We've got the two-year-olds hotting up and aiming towards the Slipper and if they're going to be competitive there, they've got to be competitive on Saturday," Slade said.
