Omei Sword not certain for Rosebud

Monday 1 August 2016, 3:48pm

Omei Sword is ready to go to the races but trainer Chris Waller will weigh up whether it is in her best interests to wait a little longer.

The filly is entered for Saturday's Listed Rosebud at Randwick but the big picture is the Flight Stakes in October.

"She's ready to go to the races now," Waller said.

"I'll look at the field and if I think it's weaker than it could have been, she could run.

"She has come on since the autumn. She has had two trials and I'm happy with her.

"It's a question of working out the best program heading to the Flight Stakes."

Omei Sword had three starts as a two-year-old, winning on debut before running a close second to Godolphin filly Calliope in the Group Two Magic Night Stakes.

She showed her inexperience when she pulled hard during the ATC Sires' Produce Stakes and was unplaced in the Group One race taken out by Yankee Rose.

The Flight Stakes is also among the options for Yankee Rose who is being aimed at the Cox Plate.

Waller already has the favourite Winx for that race and would rather keep Omei Sword to her own sex for the time being.

By High Chaparral out of 2009 Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights, Omei Sword is raced by Macau businessman C C Lai who also owns her Group One winning stablemates Delectation, Grand Marshal and Good Project.

Omei Sword was one of 12 entries taken on Monday for the Rosebud (1200m) headed by Group One placegetter, Divine Prophet, third in the Champagne Stakes.

Divine Prophet is trained by Hawkes Racing which has also entered debutant Legendofoz, a Fastnet Rock colt out of multiple Group One winner Princess Coup.

Peter and Paul Snowden have nominated Mediterranean and Quick Feet with last season's star two-year-old Capitalist to run in the weight-for-age Missile Stakes.
