Three on the trot for Super Tycoon

Saturday 30 July 2016, 5:19pm

Super Tycoon's third consecutive Sydney Saturday win has convinced trainer Greg McFarlane he can measure up at stakes level.

Super Tycoon ($7) kicked away in the straight to record a 3-3/4 length, with Tower Of Song ($13) edging out Dragon Flyer ($11) to fill the placings in a 1350m benchmark race at Rosehill.

"I think he is a black-type horse," McFarlane said.

While his appearance didn't endear himself in the mounting yard, McFarlane said Super Tycoon's winter coat was a product of the horse preferring life outside the stable at his Gosford training base.

"He doesn't like to be kept inside stables," McFarlane said.

"Unfortunately it is very cold up there but it seems to toughen him up and harden him up too."

Jockey Glyn Schofield said he was impressed with the gelding's turn of foot as he overcame a weight rise and dropping back in distance from 1500m to 1350m.

"To win three Saturday races is no easy feat but to do it with those sort of things against him and to do it the way he did today was pretty good," Schofield said.

The horse has been a poster boy for McFarlane's stable since he returned from a two-year ban for attempting to treat a horse on a race day in July 2013.

Of the trainer's last 19 runners, eight have won and McFarlane says he will now look to expand his team.

"I just think you need to establish yourself first," he said.

"Once you're confident and when everything is working such as now, I'll start going back to people and hopefully we can expand."
