Lonsdale Cup next for Trip To Paris

Tuesday 26 July 2016, 9:06am

The Melbourne Cup is again in the agenda for Trip To Paris who is to be set for the Lonsdale Cup for his second run back from injury.

Runner-up in the 2015 Caulfield Cup before his fourth in the Melbourne Cup, Trip To Paris injured a tendon in the Japan Cup.

Trainer Ed Dunlop has earmarked next month's two-mile (3200m) Group Two Lonsdale Cup for the five-year-old after deciding not to run him in the Goodwood Cup on Thursday.

Trip To Paris made a satisfactory return last month when third in a 2000m Listed race at Newbury.

"It was an encouraging return and he came to hand quicker than I thought," Dunlop said.

"I thought Goodwood was a bit too soon after that run and with the greatest respect to Goodwood, it is not the ideal track for a horse that had a tendon injury to run on.

"York gives us a nice break between races.

"He is in the Irish St Leger and various other races. He could also go back for the Melbourne Cup. We will just take it one race at a time."
