Officials clear the air over comments

Friday 22 July 2016, 5:15pm

A spat played out in the media involving two high profile racing officials has been resolved.

The war of words began following a comment allegedly made by Melbourne Racing Club chief executive Brodie Arnhold at a charity event on Wednesday night before Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey responded in the media on Thursday.

Arnhold and Bailey attended a meeting on Friday with RV chief executive Bernard Saundry and MRC chairman Mike Symons.

Both Arnhold and Bailey expressed regret for their comments and reinforced the need for RV and all clubs to work together to ensure a viable and successful industry.

"Today was a fruitful discussion and the parties have agreed that the comments, whether made at a private function or to the media, were inappropriate," Saundry said.

"The matter has been resolved and all parties will move forward with the clear intention of working diligently together on the administration of the sport and ensuring they instil confidence in the interests of Victorian racing."

Symons offered the MRC's unqualified support of RV's integrity department.

"The club has always been at the forefront of enhancements to integrity measures in the Victorian racing industry and we unconditionally support the work of RV's integrity team led by Dayle Brown and Terry Bailey," Symons said.
