Clarendon House to step up in distance

Thursday 21 July 2016, 2:09pm

A chance to test Clarendon House as a future middle distance horse has enticed trainer Chris Munce to back the filly up at Doomben.

Two-year-old Clarendon House scored an impressive win against older horses over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast last Sunday.

Munce said Clarendon House, who is by Real Saga out of Canny Lad mare Agile, was starting to live up to her breeding as the distances got longer and Saturday's 1600m-race was an ideal time to try her out.

"This is a chance for her to be tested at 1600 metres and earn some more QTIS money. It would be nice to add a city two-year-old win beside her name," Munce said.

"I know the track was heavy at the Sunshine Coast last Sunday but she did it well and she did beat some older horses who had some handy form."

While Clarendon House has been unplaced three times on good tracks, Munce isn't worried if Doomben dries out by Saturday.

"Those three runs were at unsuitable distances and I am sure the 1600 metres will suit her while a few others might struggle," he said.

Munce hopes to have at least 15 two-year-olds in the new racing season.

"We have got young horses from all around the sales and they have been or are being broken in. It is an exciting time," he said.
