Lucia Valentina trials quietly at Wyong

Monday 18 July 2016, 7:25am

Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Lucia Valentina has been given a quiet barrier trial at Wyong in her first step towards the Cox Plate.

The Kris Lees-trained mare finished last in a five-horse field on Monday morning, heavily restrained by jockey Andrew Gibbons.

Lucia Valentina's stablemate and Randwick Guineas winner Le Romain trialled impressively in an earlier 845m-heat, finishing second under a tight hold from Mathew Scorse.

Le Romain is on a path towards the Epsom Handicap.

The two are scheduled to resume on August 20 with Lucia Valentina expected to take on Winx in the Warwick Stakes (1400m) and Le Romain to run in the Show County Quality (1200m).
