Schweida aiming Outraged at Townsville Cup

Sunday 17 July 2016, 10:32am

Kelly Schweida is again looking north for a feature race win, this time with Outraged in the Townsville Cup.

The trainer won the recent Rockhampton Cup with Ruling Force and earlier this year took Rockhampton's main two-year-old race, the Capricornia Stakes, with Bagus.

Originally from North Queensland, the now Brisbane-based Schweida rode with success in the area before weight forced him into the training ranks 25 years ago.

Outraged was a good third at Eagle Farm on Saturday on an unsuitable wet track.

Schweida was happy with the run and provided the gelding does well in the next few days he will head north for the Townsville Cup (2000m) on July 30.

"He isn't really suited on wet tracks but it would have been four weeks between runs if he didn't go around at Eagle Farm," Schweida said.

"To run third in the conditions when he came from well back was a good run.

"Outraged has had four runs this campaign and had no luck in any of them but he is going well."

Outraged lifted his prize money to $182,000 on Saturday which will assure him a berth in the Townsville Cup.

Schweida is still considering spring-summer options Miss Cover Girl who won the Group One Tatts Tiara at her most recent start.

"They haven't missed her in the ratings as she has gone up 14 points," he said.

"It is a fair whack for a mare who hadn't won in over a year and beat a field restricted to fillies and mares.

"We are still looking at the spring in Melbourne but there are three races at the (January) Magic Millions carnival which would suit her."

"They are each worth $1 million so it is tempting to aim for them."
